Our Surrey & Delta dentists will only perform a tooth extraction if less invasive procedures would be ineffective in treating the patient. Here are a few reasons why a tooth extraction might be necessary.
A tooth extraction is the removal of a natural tooth from the mouth, and is only necessary in the following situations:
If the tooth is damaged, either by decay or breakage, to an extent to which it cannot be saved or repaired.
If the tooth is impacted or otherwise causing damage to the other teeth around it (as is often the case with wisdom teeth).
Dentists will always repair a damaged tooth if at all possible, because the empty spaces left by missing teeth can cause serious dental problems. If the problem can be fixed with a filling, inlay, onlay, crown or root canal, these types of restorations are preferable to extractions.
